Iain Sinclair: Upriver

http://www.lrb.co.uk/v31/n12/sinc01_.html

Ostensibly a review of 'Sacred River' by Peter Ackroyd, but Sinclair can't resist attempting his own Thames walk, in the opposite direction to Ackroyd's. It gives him another opportunity to rail against the 'regeneration' of East London in anticipation of the Olympics.

14:56:22 martin: ace
14:56:24 martin: that's wicked
14:56:55 Tim Paul: perhaps I'll employ some one to stand just outside my field of vision with a huge spotlight, so that I feel like I'm in the future
14:57:04 martin: good idea!
14:57:10 martin: or strap a couple to your head
14:57:20 Tim Paul: yes
14:57:31 Tim Paul: If we all did it then we could all feel like we're in the future

Stranded

The very menacing Strand Lane, just west of Surrey St. Stumbled upon whilst trying to find a short cut from Embankment up to The Strand. There's an old watch house and roman bath at the top end of the lane. The rest of it is pure urban horror. Lovely.
